What a gift it is for me to spirit the viewer away in a shared moment of meditation and memory.
Influenced by the tonalist artists of the late 19th and early 20th century, my paintings in oil and pastel reflect a search for a contemplative mood in the landscape. In the golden hours of dawn and dusk, a magical spiritual connection takes place.
While nature and realistic elements are my source, painting softly leads me to look for the poetic element, what is not seen, but in reality - what is felt.
Growing up, my artistic view was influenced by gentle pastoral landscapes dotted by farmland and orchards. The sensibility of people and experiences of a small southwestern Michigan village, just steps away from Lake Michigan gave me a unique perspective of midwestern American life.
After college at the University of Michigan, the spectacular views of New England and Conneticut became home. The excitement of urban life complete with many trips to New York City to be inspired by the art in the city's many museums is also a part of my artistic experiences.

A Little About the Studio Cat
On a trip to the vet a few years ago, little did we know that WE would be adopted by a cute little tabby "rescue kitten". Home he went with us and was renamed, Mr. Boots, aptly so, because of his handsome white paws.
Then, when my daughter moved overseas, Mr. Boots stayed here and became my art assistant studio cat.
Mr. B  the ever present studio cat
He takes his job quite seriously and leaves little dabs of paint here and there just to remind me that leaving my palette out with fresh paint on it, in his presence, is very very tempting.
I've seen him seated at the computer as well, so don't be surprised if he makes a guest post to my blog in the future!
