White Camellias oil on canvas 8x8" © Karen F. Rose |
Rain was in the forecast yesterday. These camellia are delicate and a heavy downpour surely would have left most of the petals scattered on the ground. So, I arranged a few for a still life. What's your favorite spring flower? Hope you can take time to enjoy them!

Gorgeous, Karen! I may have to do something with the camellias currently blooming so wonderfully in our yard. You've inspired me...
Thanks Monica. Don't you just love your flowers. One of the first in our yard to bloom too. Love dogwoods but we have not planted any. Love seeing them when I ride around town.
I don't know if I've ever SEEN a camellia - but I think, now, they're my favorite. Other than that, quince, or peony, or forsythia, or tulips....
lovely, lovey painting of these flowers.
Beautiful painting Karen! These remind me of gardenias, my favorite from Hawaii.
I especially loved how you conveyed the feeling of spring rain in your reflections.
Karen, this is an absolutely exquisite painting. I love everything about it especially the softness and the green of the vase. And, of course, being a South Carolinian, the camellia is my absolute favorite of all times. It is the only thing blooming here in the darkest of winter, and they always make me happy.
Kelley,
Not sure I have ever seen a quince. Hope you will paint one. Thanks for such a wonderful compliment!
Oh Nanci I just love gardenias. They are sooo fragrant. and love love their glossy leaves. Hope your week is going well my friend. Keeping you in my thoughts.
Oh Jerry you are so sweet. Coming from such an elegant Southern lady your comment about camellia's making you happy is especially meaningful to me. Love ya! It's so true. In the midst of winter these flowers brighten our days!!!!
I don't know what these flowers are in real life, but I feel like you got the volume of them very well, they look sort of like a peony - and your shading in the whites is quite impressive.
Lovely painting! Your whites are beautiful
oh.... beautiful....
