Painterly Impressions Opens October 7, 2016 at Butterfield Garage Art Gallery in St Augustine

You're invited to Painterly Impressions a group art exhibit at Butterfield Garage Art Gallery, 137 King Street, St Augustine on exhibit October 7 to November 1, 2016.
Our opening reception is on October 7, 2016 from 5 to 9pm. There is free parking in front and behind the gallery.

Jessie Cook, Rebecca Shaffer and I are historic coast painters with three distinctively different painting styles, Here's a little more about each of us from our press release for the show.

Prairie Moon”, 6 x 6, pastel on paper by Karen F. Rose

Karen F. Rose paints a poetic vision in oil and pastel, inspired by the soft washed memory and spirituality of dawn, dusk and twilight hours. Influenced by the tonalist painters of the late 19th century, Inness and Whistler, her evocative tonal paintings are more about atmosphere and diffused light than a representation of place. Viewers often comment on the peace and serenity they feel in viewing her paintings. Karen is a member of the Oil Painters of America and was an award recipient in the juried OPA “City by the Sea” plein air event in St. Augustine. Her serene oils and pastels are in collections across the country.

Nasturtiums”, 12 x 16, oil on canvas by Jessie Cook

Jessie Cook is a landscape and still life artist who paints in an impressionist manner. “Whether working on landscape or still life, my paintings are inspired by direct observation, capturing color and value and mood of the subject before I simply let the painting itself take over. My paintings are a way to be still and to look. Both for myself and, I hope, for the viewer.” Jessie works primarily in oil and has studied with Sherry Camhy and Ric del Rossi of the Art Students League, Mary Anna Goetz of the Woodstock School of Art, and John Phillip Osborn of the Ridgewood Art Institute.  She is an award-winning artist whose work has been juried into shows in St. Augustine, Jacksonville, and Orlando, Florida, as well as in New York.

Kayak View”, 16 x 20, oil on canvas by Rebecca Shaffer

Rebecca Shaffer is a Contemporary Impressionist who paints in oil. Her paintings have been described as lyrical and often feature a body of water reflecting light and prismatic color. “Water for me is so beautiful, the way light affects it changing it from calm to stormy and anywhere in between. It is also a metaphor for the individual experience and inner realms we all embody.” Rebecca studied Fine Art at San Diego State University and has exhibited in galleries and hotels in California, Hawaii and Florida. She is a member of St. Augustine Art Association and ACA/Atlantic Center for the Arts.

The Cultural Center at Ponte Vedra Beach has partnered with the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall, a multipurpose performing arts facility, to offer the Cultural Center Annex Gallery, an exhibition space dedicated to featuring the Cultural Center’s talented Artist Members through solo exhibitions of their work.  The new gallery provides the unique opportunity for concert attendees to view and purchase local art.  One goal of the Cultural Center is to encourage and promote artistic growth and professional development, and to create a forum for the arts within Northeast Florida.  With help from accomplished arts venues like the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall, the Cultural Center is able to expand the vision of local artists by providing another opportunity to promote and sell their works.  This marriage between the visual arts and the performing arts will create a more vibrant atmosphere for those who attend the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall, which is host to amazing performances by well-known artists.
All works exhibited are for sale and  can be viewed during regular business hours, or during events and performances at the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall.
Cultural Center Annex Gallery Hours: Thursday - Friday 10:00am - 6:00pm, Saturday 9:00am - 5:00pm  (Call for availability outside of regular hours.)

Karen F. Rose Fine Art New Studio

Artist Loft for Karen F. Rose Art

Wow so many changes for me in the last few weeks. Very excited that I now have a new artist studio.
It's filled with light and has gorgeous views from the two sets of loft windows AND it's just steps away from the beach. Very grateful and blessed to be in this space.

I'm still moving and organizing, but stay tuned for more pictures.

Coastal Living for a Painter

We're Now Beachcombers
photo credit © Karen F Rose
Well it's official, along with the sea turtles, migratory birds and fishes of the sea we are now coastal residents. Can't wait to explore more of the Jacksonville, Ponte Vedra Beach and Saint Augustine areas of Florida.

I look forward to painting impressions of this area and becoming actively involved in the many art organizations and finding a gallery in the area for my paintings.

I've been a member of the First Coast Pastel Society, a great group of artists actively promoting the pastel medium in the area.
And having recently joined the Cultural Center at Ponte Vedra Beach and I look forward to taking in some studio time there.
What a beautiful venue for exhibits as well as spacious area for workshops.

So Jacksonville friends fill me in. What are some of your favorite restaurants, galleries and shops in the area that are not to be missed. I'd love to hear your suggestions.

High Springs Art Co-op
High Springs, Fl
on exhibit through September

Here's a peek at my featured artist exhibit at High Springs Art Co-op in High Springs, FL.
The opening night was so much fun and I appreciate each and everyone that came out on opening night.
There are 18 paintings, pastels and one archival print of mine on exhibit. This gallery is a co-op of talented friendly artists and so enthusiastic. What a joy to be there.
The gallery is chock full of art and each artist has a wall space that rotates every several months. When you walk in the door you will immediately see the space for the Artist of the Month.
The gallery is hung in a Salon Style. Here's a rather interesting article about the history of this type of display: Salon Style

Gifts From the Sea

Shell on beach with natures patterned background.
One of the pleasures of a beach vacation is waking early then walking the beach to discover what gifts from the sea have been left for you to discover.
And if you are very lucky you might even see a beach rainbow.
